About Us

Kings Bay Martial Arts transferred its program from Taekwondo to Tang Soo Do in January of 2020 under the instruction of Master Cindy Barrington who is a 5th Degree Black Belt in San Kil Tang Soo Do.  Master Barrington owns and operates the Family Martial Arts school in Woodbine, GA since 2009.
San Kil Tang Soo Do is our style which is in line with the traditional Tang Soo Do art via Kwan Jang Nim David Sgro, a direct student of Great Grandmaster Song Ki Kim (#312). While going through the ranks, Master Barrington had the privilege to have instruction from an open-minded instructor who infused skills from other arts such as: Japanese jujitsu (Soke Clement Reidner and Soke Larlee) Brazilian JuJitsu (Royce Gracie), Okinawa bo/staff training (Sensei  John Jackson).  Because of this training, our Tang Soo Do style is easier to translate into practical applications.

Most assume martial arts is only for kids, boys specifically; that is not true at all.  "I am not a boy, and I didn't begin training until my late 30's."  Most assume martial artist have to be athletic or at least coordinated; that is not true at all.  You have to be willing to practice, be patient, and open to correction.  One other very important requirement is to know your limitations but still understand that limitations are not boundaries but rather opportunities to be creative.

Can you be a part of Kings Bay Martial Arts:

·Must be able to focus for 45 to an hour
*Must be eager to learn

Adults

* Must be able to accept challenges
* Must be patient with yourself and others

Beginning Gup Ranks are usually a minimum age of 8 years old.  Some exceptions may be considered if a younger student is training with other family members.  There is no maximum age limit for martial arts.  There are no health requirements for martial arts, but each person must be honest and willing to adapt with the guidance of trained, experienced instructors when needed.

Junior Gups are those who are not ready for the responsibility of learning martial arts; however, they have a great interest in learning the discipline required to prepare them for this mature curriculum at an appropriate pace.  Alternate belts to award dedication may be used until the student is mature enough to enter the standard curriculum.   The minimum age is generally 6; however, five-year-old students may be considered if training with other family members.

Important Note: Even though the basic requirements are for every student, each person learns, trains, and performs differently.  Students are expected to seek out assistance when they are struggling with a technique or concept.  Asking for help is essential for growing in our art.  Many times, inspiration comes from helping someone work through a problem.
